Disco Matanga Illegal, Coast
Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr Fred Matiang’i has banned the all-night mourning events, popularly known as Disco Matanga around the coast region. The decision was arrived at after a consultative meeting with the various stakeholders in the coastal region.
Speaking to the media, Matiang’i said that the decision was arrived at after it was proven that the events have led to increased insecurity.
Some of the cases that have been mentioned adversely in the region are defilement and rape.
He said that any events that pose a threat to security will not be tolerated all over the country, saying that the decision should be a good indicator of the government’s commitment in the fight against insecurity.
He said that the government will be tough against rape and defilement, stating that the government will not spare anyone involved in them.
He added that nobody will be allowed to conduct such events in the region, stating thast anyone involved will face the full arm of the law.
He also stated that all the police commanders were under strict commands to oversee the implementation of the new directive.
The Inspector General of Police insisted that the police will intensify security operations in the region to ensure that the cases are dealt with. He further called on residents to cooperate with the police and help in getting rid of the criminal cases in the region.
