Jubilee Vice-chairman, Murathe, Resigns
Jubilee party vice-chairman, David Murathe has resigned from his position in the party. Murathe announced the unprecedented move on Sunday afternoon. He said that his decision comes as a result of his intention to block the Deputy President’s bid for presidency in 2022.
Speaking at Nairobi, Murathe announced that he saw it right to resign since it would be impossible for him to sit on the same National Executive Council with Ruto, considering that he is planning to take him to court.
He said that he is aiming at getting court orders to bar Ruto from vying for presidency in 2022. He added that the statements he has issued against DP Ruto are his own personal opinion and he has not received any briefs from anyone in that regard.
Murathe added that there are many other people who have similar views and his open criticism should not spark insults.
Speaking at Vihiga last month, Murathe said that there was no a Memorandum of Understanding signed between mount Kenya political bloc and DP Ruto, stating that it is the choice of the people of Mount Kenya to support him or not.
Murathe’s resignation comes at a time when the rift in Jubilee Party widens and deepens. This follows the continued tussle over DP Ruto’s bid for presidency wheren some Mount Kenya politicians have boldly come out claiming that the region may not support Ruto, whereas Rift Valley continue to call for Mount Kenya to honour the pledge and support Ruto in the 2022 elections.
