Passengers stranded as Michuki rules take effect again

Transport system was paralyzed yesterday on Sunday 4th October following the police crackdown on unworthy vehicles operating on the roads leaving many passengers stranded as other motorists take advantage of the situation to double the bus fare.

The National chairman of the matatu Association (MOA) Simon Kimutai has welcomed the move of the implementation of the rules but also faulted transport agencies for not complying with the rules.

‘Traffic rules are meant to be enforced continuously but the police have not been doing so. They are now pretending to be serious about enforcement. I am worried that they may take advantage of the enforcement for personal gain.’ Simon Kimutai said.

The government has given the matatus until Monday next week to comply with the rules.
