Scores Arrested Over Examination Irregularities
More than 30 people have been arrested in various parts of the country over examinations irregularities. The suspects have been arrested since the KCSE exams began on Monday. Security has been beefed up in all parts of the country to ensure that the conditions are favorable for the ongoing exams.
Among those arrested are teachers, security officers among other people. In Kisii, 17 people were arrested on Monday after they were found photocopying Chemistry examination papers. The Chemistry exam was ongoing by the time they were arrested. The seven were arrested in a house next to Monianku Secondary school where they were also answering the chemistry questions. They were later taken to scourt where the police were permitted to detain them for five days as they carry out further investigations.
Six suspects were arrested on Monday after they were found with examination materials in Shamta Academy in Kakamega. It is alleged that the six were preparing to hand over answers to students for a paper they were expected to sit for. How they accessed the question papers remains unclear as the head teachers are expected to keep the question papers before they get to the students.
This comes despite the government’s assurance of high level security to ensure no cases of insecurity and stealing of exams are observed. KNEC chairman has however said that the examinations are still ongoing in the centers where the irregularities have been observed since no cases of access to the examination materials have been observed.
