Two Cuban Doctors Abducted in Mandera.
Suspected Al Shabaab militants abducted two Cuban doctors who were on their way to work at Mandera Referral Hospital.
The doctors were being driven to work with a police escort when two saloon cars blocked their way and the abductors shot and killed one of the police officers guarding them, one officer is said to have escaped the scene of the attack. Dr Landy Rodriguez (a surgeon) and Dr Herera Correa (A General Practitioner) had settled in and had been working at the hospital for a year.
Their driver is being interrogated by police and security officials are in pursuit of the attackers, but witnesses said that they believe the Al Shabaab militants fled with the abducted doctors across the border to Somalia.
The doctors are part of a team of 100 medical specialists who came to Kenya in June 2018 as part of a deal between the Kenyan and Cuban governments.
