Woman Kills Self After Failing to Raise Fees for Daughter

A woman has killed herself in Kitui after failing to raise enough money to take her daughter to form one in the last year’s KCSE exams. The woman from Kitui county committed suicide after she was unable to gather money that would see her daughter who was to join secondary school this year.

The 37-year old woman from Kitulani in Itoleka location was disappointed after the daughter who scored 396 marks threatened to commit suicide if the family does not raise the money needed for her to join form one.

She has received two admission letters, one from Machakos Girls’ High school and the other one from Chogoria Girls High School in Embu.

The woman left a suicide note indicating that she was regretted that she could not raise the money needed for her daughter to join form one.

County Children’s Coordinator Daniel Musembi said his office will take up the matter and support the girl to achieve her dreams through the presidential bursary under the Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) programme.

The body has been taken to Kitui County Referral Hospital Mortuary for preservation as it awaits post mortem.

Kitui county police commander confirmed the incident terming it as a sad one.
