The Police officers in Webuye are conducting investigations into the death of a 24-year-old man who died by suicide.
The man whose name is Samson Barasa has been missing for three days before one of the family member found his dead body dangling from a tree in a sugarcane plantation on Wednesday evening.
Police Commander Joseph Chesire of Webuye west sub-county said that the police were investigating the incident.
Barasa’s grandmother, Everlyn Barasa, said that he had been punished by his father for stealing a mobile phone from a neighbor.
“My grandson was furious after he was reprimanded for stealing the phone and threatened to take his own life, but the family took it as a joke,” she said.
Leonard Tundo, Barasa’s father, stated that the death of his fourth-born son shocked him and the entire clan at large.

In Bukusu culture, a person who dies by suicide is to be buried at night by elders in accordance with local traditions. In such scenes, cleansing rituals will be performed in the homestead to prevent such an incident from happening again. The body was then taken to Webuye mortuary by the police officers
