On Wednesday, July 19, 2023, Kenya Railways announced the temporary suspension of all commuter train services as a precautionary measure. This decision came in response to recent incidents where their stations were vandalized, and trains were stoned, posing a significant risk to the safety of passengers.

The suspension specifically affects the Nairobi Commuter Rail Service trains that operate between Nairobi Central Station and the following destinations: Lukenya, Syokimau, Embakasi village, Ruiru, Kahawa West, and Limuru. Additionally, the Commuter Passenger Service between Nairobi Terminus and Ngong Station will also be affected.

The management of Kenya Railways emphasized that the safety of their customers is of paramount importance, and they are compelled to take these measures to safeguard passengers’ lives. They apologized for any inconvenience caused and promised to notify customers and the public once normal services resume.
