DJ Brownskin has finally been charged before Milimani Law Courts. On June 4, DCI said the DJ was arrested after defying summons by police to record a statement in relation to his wife’s death.
“In a heart-wrenching video tape released by a popular blogger on April 1, 9 months after Njeri’s remains had been buried, her last moments were filmed by the DJ as she emptied a poisonous substance into a cup and ingested without hesitation. She then slumped on a couch and called her two children to inform them of her impending death,” the DCI said in a statement adding that the suspect sent the video to his other girlfriend living abroad.
The DJ was charged with a second count of failing to use all reasonable force to prevent his wife from committing suicide although he had knowledge that she was planning to commit suicide.
He was further charged with destroying suicidal evidence from his phone on June 1, 2023, having knowledge that the said evidence would be required in judicial proceedings.
He was arrested on 1st June at a club in Kasarani after a video surfaced, and went viral, in April showing what appeared to be him recording his wife taking poison.
Police officers launched a probe on the incident and preferred to charge him with aiding suicide, in line with Section 225 (c) of the Penal Code, which states that, “any person who procures another to kill himself, or counsels another to kill himself and thereby induces him to do so; or aids another in killing himself is guilty of a felony and liable to life imprisonment.”
This follows a video that surfaced in April and went viral showing DJ Brownskin in what appeared to be him recording his wife taking poison.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, DJ Brownskin denied three charges of aiding suicide, neglect to prevent a felony and destroying evidence by deleting the videos he had uploaded on his social media regarding the suicide incident at their house in July last year.
“That on July 29, 2022, at Kariobangi South Buruburu Sub-county in Nairobi county, the DJ counselled his late wife Njeri to kill herself by taking poison, ” the charge sheet reads.
He was also charged that on the same date, a place knowing that Njeri was designed to commit suicide failed to use all reasonable causes to prevent the suicide.
