A wave of hope and encouragement swept through Chepnyal Girls’ School in West Pokot County on the last Friday of march, as the Women of Varlour- Kitale Charter paid a special visit to the school aimed at transforming the lives of students from the underprivileged backgrounds.

The visit was marked by compassion and generosity and saw the women donate a wide range of essential items designed to support the girls both academically and personally. These girls are among many who have escaped forced and early marriages while others face hard times at home. Among the items distributed were sanitary towels, shoes, and critical learning materials such as textbooks, pens, and mathematical sets. These supplies are expected to ease the daily challenges faced by many of the students, allowing them to focus more on their education without unnecessary barriers.

In addition to educational support, The Women of Varlour also provided food supplies to the school, a move aimed at improving the overall well-being of the students. Access to proper nutrition is a key factor in academic success, and the donation is set to create a more conducive learning environment for the girls.

Speaking to Imani Radio during the event, the President of Women of Varlour, Pst. Risper Butaki, commended the school’s administration for its unwavering commitment to protecting girls from early marriages—an issue that continues to affect many communities in the region. She praised the institution for giving young girls a second chance at life through education, empowering them to build brighter and more independent futures.

Pst.Risper emphasized that ensuring access to education for every child is a shared responsibility that goes beyond schools and families. She called upon well-wishers, donors, and stakeholders to come together and support initiatives that uplift vulnerable learners, noting that collective effort is key to creating lasting change.

Teachers at Chepnyal Girls’ School expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Women of Varlour for what they described as a timely and impactful intervention. They noted that the support would significantly improve the students’ morale and enhance the overall quality of education at the institution.

The students themselves could not hide their joy. In interviews with Imani Radio, several girls expressed deep appreciation for the donations, saying they now feel more motivated and confident to pursue their studies. They also warmly welcomed the organization to visit again in the future, describing the day as one they will always remember.

The visit by Women of Varlour serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that community-driven initiatives can have in shaping the future of young girls, especially in marginalized areas. It underscores the importance of partnerships and goodwill in breaking barriers to education and creating opportunities for the next generation.
