The Higher Education Loans Board has finalized the processing of loans for first-year university students and TVETS under the New Higher Education Funding Model. This makes the 2022 group of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) the first to benefit from the funding model.

A press statement issued by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Friday, November 3 called on students who had applied for the funding to ensure that their bank details, as provided in the loan application, are correct and up to date.

“The Higher Education Loans Board has finalized the processing of loans for First Year students in universities and TVETs under the New Higher Education Funding Model,” he added.

On July 31, 2023, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu launched the Higher Education Financing (HEF) Portal, through which applications for scholarships, loans, and bursaries will be made individually soon after receiving admission letters.

The application deadline for the loans was October 7.

Machogu says the funds will be disbursed to their respective universities and student accounts starting Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
