East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) member Kanini Kega said he was not happy with the exclusion of the Jubilee Party from the peace talks. The outspoken lawmaker demanded that the former ruling party be included, or he moved to court. However, Kenyans chided the EALA lawmaker, reminding him that he was part of the Kenya Kwanza .
In a statement on Tuesday, Kega said the party is the third largest in the country and should be in the talks.”If the Jubilee Party will not be represented in the dialogue talks then we will meet in court! Jubilee is the 3rd largest Party in Kenya,” he said.
This comes even as Azimio and Kenya Kwanza already set the motion to have the bipartisan team and their respective technical teams recognised by law.Despite his remarks, the Jubilee party has embattled secretary general Jeremiah Kioni as leader of the technical team from the Azimio side.
When Ruto and Raila first agreed to hold talks to end the political stalemate in the country, the Opposition protested the inclusion of Aden Keynan to form part of the Kenya Kwanza team for the talks.
Keynan is the acting chairperson of the Jubilee party, in the Kega-led faction. The move saw the talks collapse until he was effectively axed from the team. The bipartisan team met on Monday at the Bomas of Kenya where they resolved to have the process fully recognised by law, through the National Assembly.
The two teams recently officially co-opted members of their technical teams to the dialogue team, with a task of shaping the agenda for the talks. Already, a motion to set up the National Dialogue Committee has been tabled in the National Assembly, co-sponsored by Ichung’wah and Wandayi.
