Legendary Kipchoge Keino family has set aside 75 acres of land to construct a multi-million sports complex at his Kazi Mingi Farm in Eldoret. Martin Keino, one of the Kipchoge sons and former athlete, revealed that the facility will accommodate all sporting facilities and they will soon do a groundbreaking, with hopes of starting next year.
“The state-of-the-art complex will comprise all sporting facilities among them basketball courts, volleyball, and hockey fields as well as a football pitch and athletics track, indoor arena, and accommodation facilities.
“We are targeting all sports and top athletes from different disciplines to come and train at the facility as well as those who will want to play for recreation,” said Martin.
“We as a family are planning to set up this facility, which will be an extension of the Kip Keino High Altitude Training Centre,” he said.
With Eldoret, almost becoming a fully-fledged city in the next few months, Keino said the region will need bigger facilities to cater to visiting sportsmen and women.
“The center is listed as a high-performance training center by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which focuses on developing middle and long-distance athletes,” said Keino.
With the completion of the facility, it is expected to host school games and local and international events. The construction works are expected to be done within three to five years.
“We are looking to break the ground at the beginning of 202. We are currently finalising the logistics,” he said.
Apart from sports, they will also offer accommodation services to sportsmen and women at a subsidized cost, especially for those who will need to use the facility for a longer period.
