Kisumu is among the counties leading in terms of HIV prevalence, the National Syndemic Disease Control Council has indicated.
Program officer Douglas Bosire said Kisumu recorded 14.5 per cent of HIV infections while Migori is reporting 9.7 per cent.
Mombasa had a 4.6 per cent prevalence followed by Kisii at 4.4 per cent as of August 2023.
Homabay recorded 15.2 per cent, Siaya had 13.2 per cent. Samburu 4.3 per cent, Vihiga 4.2 per cent and Uasin Gishu 3.7 per cent.
“Kenya is on track towards reduction of new HIV infections,” Bosire said during an ongoing media cafe on HIV in Machakos on Monday.
He said new HIV infections have reduced by 78 per cent in the last 10 years from 101,448 in 2013 to 22,154 in 2022 attributable to targeted HIV prevention interventions by the Government through the Ministry of Health.
“Adolescents and young people aged 15-24 years continue to be disproportionately affected by HIV,” he said.
HIV prevalence stood at 3.7 per cent in 2022 with an estimated 1,377,784 people living with HIV in the country.
