Five people killed and nine others injured on Tuesday Evening 10th January , after a matatu they were travelling in turned several times at Lurambi in Kakamega County. The matatu’s back tyre burst, causing it to hurtle off the road. The accident occurred on the Kakamega-Mumias Road near River Sasala.

While confirming the incident, Western Regional Traffic Police Commandant Joseph Mutiku said that the injured victims were taken to St. Mary’s Mission Hospital in Mumias and the Kakamega County General Teaching and Referral Hospital.

He continues to say that the Bodies of the five victims were taken to St. Mary’s Mission Hospital, Mumias mortuary.

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa said three of the nine injured victims have since been treated and discharged.
