The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has formally announced its full backing of the Kenya Kwanza administration, vowing to collaborate with President William Ruto to advance the government’s broad-based development agenda.

In a resolution passed on Tuesday by the party’s Central Committee, chaired by ODM leader Raila Odinga, the party reaffirmed its dedication to promoting national stability and addressing public concerns through democratic and constitutional means.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, in a subsequent press release, revealed that the party will establish a 10-member technical committee to work alongside counterparts from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed last year.

“The party supports the position of our leader, Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, to engage with the Kenya Kwanza administration in efforts to stabilise the country and create a conducive environment for citizens to raise and resolve their issues democratically,” said Sifuna.

He added that the absence of a joint technical team has delayed progress, especially on critical elements of the MoU, including the full implementation of the NADCO report.

Sifuna emphasized the need to prioritise youth livelihoods, the right to peaceful assembly, the rule of law, and the fight against corruption and misuse of public resources.

ODM also welcomed the government’s allocation of Ksh.415 billion to county governments but reiterated its call to raise the amount to at least Ksh.450 billion, in line with earlier proposals by Mr. Odinga.

Furthermore, the party demanded the full implementation of the unbundling of devolved functions and the equitable allocation of constitutionally mandated resources to counties.
