The fourth edition of Senate Mashinani has officially begun in Busia County, where the Senate will hold its sittings for one week at the Busia County Assembly.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi said the sessions aim to strengthen collaboration between the Senate, county governments, and the national government. The initiative follows a Senate resolution to conduct county sittings every October, except during election years.

During the week, senators will engage the public on the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and oversee county projects and programs. Committees will also hold meetings across the county, giving residents a chance to participate in legislative discussions and interact directly with lawmakers.

Governor Paul Otuoma and the County Public Accounts Committee, chaired by Senator Moses Kajwang’, will review Busia’s 2023/2024 financial reports. Other committees focusing on education, agriculture, trade, industry, and national cohesion will also sit in Busia.

Senate Clerk Jeremiah Nyegenye said the sessions aim to enhance public awareness of Senate activities and strengthen cooperation between national and county governments.
